Police operation in Rhyl leads to 13 arrests

Sep 16 2008

By Martin Williams

A high profile police operation undertaken in a bid to make the Rhyl area an even safer place led to 13 people being arrested for a variety of offences.

While the North Wales Police Mounted Unit patrolled the streets of Rhyl last Friday, 12 September, over 40 police officers, staff and the dog section worked with partner agencies to ensure the high profile operation to target people carrying dangerous instruments or offensive weapons was a success.

Over 100 people were searched under the powers of the section 60 Criminal Justice and Public order Act 1994. A total of 13 people were arrested for burglary dwelling, possession with intent to supply controlled drugs and possession offences, as well as for disqualified driving and excess alcohol.

Insp Steve Williams, district inspector for North Denbighshire said: "The big policing operation in the town was a result of intelligence provided and in a bid to react to community concerns."

"I am pleased to state that it proved that North Denbighshire remains a safe place to live, work and visit and the message is getting across to the public that the carrying of dangerous instruments or offensive weapons will not be tolerated. Those who do will be targeted and prosecuted."

"The feedback from the general public on Friday was immense with residents stating their pleasure at seeing so many officers on the streets." He added: "I will be conducting many similar events in the future."
