STEVE Bowes scored his 100th competitive goal for Prestatyn in his 93rd appearance as the Seasiders produced a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down to claim their first League Cup point at a stunned Park Hall last Tuesday. A reshuffled Saints side dominated the first half and the full-timers took the lead on 20 minutes when Steven Beck rounded keeper Jon Dunt and rolled the ball towards an empty net. Andy Davies made a valiant attempt to clear but kicked the ball against the bar, it dropped and rolled out but the linesman controversially deemed it had crossed the line. John Leah’s wonder strike from 25 yards followed from a left-wing corner and when Michael Wilde set-up Alfie Carter to make it 3-0 on 37 minutes the Seasiders looked a spent force. Dunt did well to save Carter’s shot soon after the resumption but, after Neil Gibson and Bowes had gone close for the visitors, Saints got a wake-up call in the 69th minute when Jack Lewis got free down the left to score with an angled drive into the far corner. Things got worse for the hosts when Craig Whitfield conceded a free-kick on the edge of the box and the set-piece found Bowes, who netted from close range. And the same player provided the cross from which Russ Jones headed into the far corner with the last action of the match to secure a memorable draw. Prestatyn: Dunt, A Davies, J Lewis, Hayes, Jones, Parker, Evans (A Williams 66), Gibson, Griffiths, Hoult, Bowes. Att: 203. |
