EuroTwenty20 comes to Carmel

Jul 9 2008

by Dave Jones, Rhyl Visitor

EASTERN Europe is hardly famed for its cricketing prowess but next week visitors to a Flintshire village can see how the game in that part of the world is developing when a unique tournament is staged.

Carmel Cricket Club will host the EuroTwenty20 tournament at Pen-y-Gelli from July 13 to 20.

Joining the home club will be Croatia, Poland, Slovakia, Estonia, Czech Republic and Russia.

Admission will be free, but offers of sponsorship would be very welcome since it will cost in the region of £7,000 to £10,000 to stage the competition which, if successful, could become an annual event to possibly include neighbouring clubs.

Rhyl’s Take-a-Break cafe will be there with a food outlet all week and the teams will stay at the Lyons Robin Hood camp in Rhyl.

Tournament line up:

Group A – Croatia, Poland, Carmel, Slovakia; Group B – Estonia, Czech Republic, Russia, Cricket Board of North Wales.

Match schedule: Sunday, July 13 – 10.30am official opening, 11am Croatia v Slovakia, 2pm Carmel v Poland, 5pm Czech Republic v CBNW.
