A LOVING daughter has launched a fundraising bid to raise money for the support of sufferers of a brain swelling condition that claimed the life of her mum. Mair Owen died last June, aged 59, after living for years with a condition that doctors believe was hydrocephalus, which causes the brain to swell. Now daughter Siân Owen of Llanddulas wants to collect more than £10,000 for the charity Asbah, which supports sufferers with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and their families. The family has set up a charity website for donations and this spring will stage a glittering dinner at the Imperial Hotel in Llandudno, with the food cooked by the Welsh national culinary team. Mum-of-two Sian, 33, said: "This ball and the whole fundraising effort is being done in memory of my mum and to ensure other people get the support we did from this charity. "At the time we were very frustrated and unhappy with the treatment locally and this charity provided a wonderful contact to get more information and support. "The ball and auction will be to remember mum and we hope the night will help with the fundraising. I am aiming to collect £10,000 and so far we have about £1,000, partly donated through the website." The ball will be held at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno, on April 19. Tickets for the three- course dinner are £35. Siân said: "People don’t often get the chance to be cooked for by the best chefs from across Wales so it will be a fantastic night. I hope it will be very popular." Asbah is the leading UK charity providing information and advice about spina bifida and hydrocephalus to individuals, families and carers.
