THE music of Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five will be celebrated at a show in Llandudno next week. Complete with dancers, lights and all the hits from the last four decades, Thriller Live arrives at Venue Cymru on April 16. The show is produced by renowned Michael Jackson biographer, Adrian Grant and features Rico Baird, who’s not only appeared in Jackson’s music videos but performed live on stage with the pop legend. Rico explained he felt the star was often misunderstood, but vowed to recreate some of his “magic”. “Thriller is basically a show paying tribute to Michael Jackson– it’s good timing as he’s just released his 25-year anniversary album,” he said. “I’ve performed with him- I did the Rock My World video and a few live shows in Korea and Germany. Everyone thinks he’s strange and unapproachable but he talks and cracks jokes – but he’s really serious when it comes to his work. I danced right next to him and learned so much– and I try to put some of that magic and intensity into the show.” Rico also promised fans both young and old wouldn’t be disappointed and claimed the show would transport more senior members of the audience back to the disco era and Jackson’s Thriller and Bad album hey-day. “My favourite songs to perform is between Billie Jean and Smooth Criminal,” said. “I think Michael Jackson has fans everywhere, his music is timeless- there are people who weren’t even born in the 80s and 70s who like his music today. Michael Jackson is someone I respect and people can expect an amazing experience, it is almost like you are there in the 70s or 80s. It is a really amazing show and I’m not just saying that because I’m in it! People should come and see it firstly because it is an amazing show and because they can leave with something they cherish.” Thriller Live is at Venue Cymru at 8pm on April 16.
