POPULAR country crooners Foster and Allen will play some of their favourite tunes in Llandudno next month. The Irish duo will arrive in town to sing some of their best-known ballads such as Maggie, I Will Love You All My Life and Galway Bay. We caught up with one half of the long-established folk twosome, Tony Allen, before the upcoming gig at Venue Cymru, which marks the start of a 15-date UK tour. Tony said he was looking forward to the gig before the pair head out to Australia in May and explained the old songs were still crowd-pleasers. “We do a lot of the old songs and get people to join in. The show is also very light-hearted and we sing some humorous songs,” said Tony. “A lot of our fans are getting on a bit but they have a lot of life left in them! We also get younger ones who bring their mums or grannies – if they haven’t seen us before then the show is about two hours and 15 minutes long, so you get value for money and we do as many songs as we can.” Tony also revealed that he and his partner Mick enjoy playing the Llandudno theatre and added the Celtic connection gives the show a special edge. “Venue Cymru is a good theatre and is always a great audience, we always enjoy playing there. The crowds enjoy a little bit of fun and when the show is over they go home happy,” said Tony. “And the Welsh love the Irish. The Irish and the Welsh and the Scottish have a way of performing music that make it their own,” he added. Foster and Allen play at Venue Cymru at 8pm on April 1. Tickets are priced £14 and £16.
