Rhyl trio get a shot at the big time in US

Jul 2 2008

by Martin Williams, Rhyl Visitor

AMERICA beckons for a Rhyl rock trio with huge potential and a score to settle.

Homespun have signed a deal with dPulse Recordings, whose range of artists includes million-sellers Amanda Ghost, George Acosta, DJ Voodoo and Chris Domingo.

The gritty, no-nonsense punk/rock combo, made up of Terry Foster (guitars, vox), Damien Sayell (bass) and drummer Tony Foster, have been grinding away for almost 10 years, playing hundreds of bars, clubs and concert halls up and down the country.

They’ve cut their teeth, they’ve recorded EPs and a new album – Sexready Mind Control – and they even made Prince Charles blush with a headline-hitting CD presentation, but now they’ve made the break the lads are determined to crack the big time and prove their mettle on the big stage.

“We are all hyped about the contract and the new exposure we’re being given internationally,” Terry told the Visitor this week.

“We’ve lived this for years, it’s been a long time coming and we have more than paid our dues.

“We plan to give it everything, we will be successful and won’t stop until we get there. We don’t mess about, this is a big opportunity and we’re going to grab it.

“Damien, Tony and myself want to thank everyone who’s been supportive of Homespun, from back in the day up to now – you’ve played a part in this and we appreciate it.”

Homespun’s new management team is Green Dragon Media.

They have signed a two-year deal which will include the re-releases of single Badman on August 12, and Sexready Mind Control, though the record contains three new songs and is aimed towards the American market.

Martin Devaughan, head of GDM, says the band has tremendous potential and is fully deserving of the plaudits.

“From the very first time I saw Homespun performing, I knew they were heading in the right direction,” said Martin.

“For the past 12 months I’ve taken their music to various records labels, both here in the UK and over in the USA. Almost all of them wanted to sign the band there and then but the members of Homespun know the pitfalls of signing the first deal pushed under your nose.

“We all hung out until we found a label who not only understood where the band was coming from but could see where it is going. In dPulse we have found a label who we can work with, in the confidence that they are 100% behind the band. This opportunity is no more than the lads deserve.”

dPulse themselves are excited to have added Homespun to their stable of artists.

With all this talk of overseas it may seem that the band has turned its back on its roots, but the boys still have their feet planted firmly on the ground and will be embarking on a series of UK dates to promote the album release.

“We’re local lads, we’re proud of that, and as well as ourselves we’re doing it for our friends, family and the people who have stuck with us over the years – you know who you are,” added Terry.

The Visitor wish Homespun every success, they are one of the best bands North Wales has produced and are fully-deserving of this shot at the big time.
