GLAM rock legends T-Rex are coming to Colwyn Bay on Thursday. The boys will be belting out old favourites such as Ride a White Swan, 20th Century Boy and Cosmic Dancer at Theatr Colwyn. The band’s line-up has changed drastically since their 1970s hey-day and only drummer Paul Fenton survives following the death of bass player Mickey Finn in 2003 and front-man Marc Bolan, who died two weeks short of his 30th birthday in 1977. But Paul says the band are feeling fresh and promises T-Rex have not lost their ability to whip up hysteria at their gigs despite the obvious absence of 70s heart-throb Marc. "We are always thrilled to do any British gigs as we mainly work abroad – we’ve played in Russia, Japan and America this year, we are constantly travelling around the world – the music is working very well for us," he said. With renewed global interest, Paul promises T-Rex’s sound hasn’t been diluted at all over the years and even boasts the band has actually improved in some ways due to improved technology. "We do everything, all the hits, 20th Century Boy, Telegram Sam and Born to Boogie, but the equipment is better now so the sound is much better than it would have been in the 70s," he said. "But if you close your eyes when Rob is singing Marc is who you are listening to – the band gets nothing but praise otherwise we wouldn’t be asked to play America. "The gigs that we get we treat very, very seriously – we try and get perfection. "It’s like if you go to see a doctor people expect a certain level. Anyone old enough to remember Marc Bolan would remember his show – this is one you won’t forget and one Marc would be proud of." T-Rex (A Celebration of Marc and Mickey) play Theatr Colwyn at 7.30pm on Thursday, February 21. Tickets are priced £13. Call the Box Office on 01492 532668 or 872000. |
