A WOMAN from St Asaph is adding spice to her life by using pedal power to propel herself across the Indian subcontinent. Vicki Caldwell, 65, is this Thursday (tomorrow) starting an epic 400km trek across Rajasthan in an effort to raise money for Women Helping Women and the Lighthouse Club charities. Together with Nicola Edwards from Lloc, Mrs Caldwell hopes to complete the heroic journey in only five days. "I’ve never been to India before and I hope I’ll be able to do it," she said. "We’ve been training back to back and ridden from the Nova Centre in Prestatyn to Rhos-on- Sea and back again every Sunday. "It’s going to be very cold over there at night and hot during the day, but we’ve got support vehicles to take the tents and all the food." Contrary to popular belief, such cycle trips are not necessarily an excuse for a free holiday and the pair met the majority of the travel costs and expenses themselves as well as committing to raising £10,000. "We’ve had quite a lot of corporate support but we need perhaps five or six more companies to support us and we might reach the target. Everybody’s been really supportive." The two ladies’ journey will take them through jungles populated by savage tigers, poisonous spiders, deadly scorpions and hungry snakes. They will also have to navigate across rivers teeming with terrifying crocodiles.
