A NEW cycle path and footbridge over the River Elwy in St Asaph has spurred a number of residents, known as the "River Elwy Care Group", to upgrade an unsurfaced footpath running past the flood defence bank along the riverside park. The project was funded by grants from the Welsh Assembly and Cadwyn Clwyd to cover the cost of the work, and the project was further helped with funding from Denbighshire’s County footpaths budget as well as a gift of £1,000 from ward member John Smith. "I am pleased to have donated £1,000 from my Member’s Priority Fund to help this community-led project," he said. "It is nice to be able to support such initiatives by residents who seek to bring in the external funding often available to voluntary groups to improve the local environment." The new path, which is already a popular short cut for locals, means that anyone visiting the supermarket or doctor’s surgery can now use an all-weather route, free from traffic and avoiding the need to walk along the pavement on the busy road. |
