IF YOU’RE fond of hard work, the great outdoors and fantastic views then you could do worse than to lend your time and energy helping improve the scenic paths of Denbighshire. Denbighshire Countryside Service is offering a unique opportunity for people interested in volunteering to improve the public rights of way network along the county’s coastline. For three months, volunteers are being offered the opportunity to work alongside two newly appointed coastal access officers. A great deal of the planned work will involve upgrading local paths within 2km of the coastline and particular attention will be given to improving access for all. Funding for the project has come from the Assembly via the Countryside Council for Wales and it is hoped that work completed in Denbighshire will considerably add to plans for a continuous Welsh coastal access path, due for completion by 2014. Shane Hughes, assistant coastal access officer, said: "Volunteering is a great way to experience Denbighshire’s vibrant countryside, make new friends and learn new skills. Everyone is welcome. "This is an excellent opportunity for anyone within the coastal region and beyond to become involved in what is an exciting and forward-thinking project." As part of the project, the service is running a coastal access event on February 29 between 10am and 3pm at Wellington Community Centre, Wellington Road, Rhyl. The open day will include a guided wildlife-based walk and a guided coastal walk and the opportunity for you to put your ideas forward.
