ORGANISERS of an exhibition looking back on Rhyl’s history as a popular holiday destination are appealing for pictures of donkeys on the seafront. Once a traditional pastime for holidaymakers, donkey rides have been scarce in recent years as trips to Europe and the wider world become the norm. May is Museums and Galleries Month and Denbighshire’s heritage staff are hoping to set up an exhibition at the Rhyl Museum, looking back at your family seaside pictures. Susan Dalloe, Museums Development Officer for Denbighshire, said: "We are looking at the story of donkeys on beaches and are really hoping to collect images of people as children over the years on local beaches or elsewhere enjoying donkey rides at the seaside, to help celebrate the month long event. "We are also keen to hear from anyone with information about the donkeys, who may have owned them, where they were kept in the winter months, or personal stories and memories associated with them – anything like that to add background to the exhibition would be most welcome." The exhibition is being coordinated by Chris Mitchell, who can be contacted on 01824 708281. Scanned pictures can be sent to rose.mcmahon@denbighshire.gov.uk |
