World War Two land girls can apply for special badges

Feb 6 2008

By Martin Williams

WOMEN who worked the land during the Second World War can now apply for a badge commemorating their efforts.

The badge will acknowledge those surviving members of the Women’s Land Army and Women’s Timber Corps who worked on the Home Front to provide food and timber for the nation during both World Wars.

"We have rightly commemorated the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen and women in the Armed Forces but we should not forget the efforts made by those at home," said Chris Ruane, MP for the Vale of Clwyd.

"I am pleased to see the determination and spirit of those who kept the country going during the First and Second World Wars is being recognised."

For further information on the badge or an application form contact Chris Ruane MP, 25 Kinmel Street, Rhyl, Denbighshire, LL18 1AH, or e-mail ruanec@parliament.uk

Alternatively, call 01745 354626.
