Youngsters lay wreaths for Holocaust Day

Feb 6 2008

By Andy Davies

TWO young ladies did St Asaph proud by laying a wreath at the town’s war memorial as part of Holocaust Memorial day last week.

The short service of Remembrance was organised by councillor Charles Leach, secretary of the St Asaph Royal British Legion.

The two students of Denbigh School, Bethan Evans and Sammie Hicks, laid a wreath on behalf of the community and also the North Wales District of the Royal British Legion.

Another wreath (bearing the Star of David) was laid by John Mountcastle, chairman of the St Asaph branch on behalf of local branch members.

The two wreaths represented the two generations at the Cenotaph.

The short service was led by branch president and Second World War veteran Rod Thomas.

He reminded those present of the Holocaust which had occurred in his lifetime and gave an insight into the reasons the atrocities occurred.

The branch wishes to thank all for their support at Holocaust Memorial Day.

Cllr Leach would also like to thank North Wales Police who stopped the traffic for the duration of the service.
