A DANCE act described by Simon Cowell as one of the best in the country are hip-hopping along to the Rhyl Pavilion this month. Flava were formed four years ago by Kyle Richardson and a group of his friends who came together through their love of music and street dancing. When Kyle’s mother Fiona, a choreographer, realised that Kyle and his friends has the drive and determination to take their hobby to a new level, she began training them for dance events. On the back of competing at local events, Flava were selected to represent England at the World Hip Hop Championships in Germany and, more recently, made it to the live semi-finals of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent show. Flava performed to rave reviews by the talent show judges. Simon Cowell said of the troupe, “The raw talent and the choreography was as good as anything I’ve seen in America. They’re one of the best dance acts I’ve seen in this country. They’re terrific.” “Flava also represented the UK in America, at the Dance Excellence Awards held in Los Angeles. While in LA, five members of the troupe were selected to join The Young Americas, a professional touring group which help disadvantaged children express themselves through music and dance. They will return to LA next year for training and to take part in the world tour. Kyle, who was 14 when he started Flava, says he hopes that the group will inspire other teenagers to find something positive to put their energy into. “We want kids to look to us as positive role models,” he said. “We work hard, but it’s a lot of fun and we really enjoy what we do. Hopefully we’ll inspire other kids to want to do the same.” Flava along with the Linzi Grace School of Dance, North Wales School of Dance and the Gay Harris Dancers will be performing at the Pavilion on September 26, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 adult, £7.50 children, family ticket £30. Call the Box Office on 01745 33 0000 or book online at www.rhylpavilion.co.uk |
